January-April 2023 Recap – Celebrating Collaboration and Growth 🌱
As we prepare to bid farewell to another remarkable year, we want to take a moment to reflect on the milestones and achievements that have shaped our rocket-like journey this year 🌟
⏪ January
In our first year as a social enterprise, we are grateful to the Hong Kong Social Enterprise Summit for recognizing our efforts, allowing us to participate in the Hong Kong Social Enterprise Employee Recognition Scheme 2022. We distributed Tasse’s in-house drip coffee packs to all guests, and at the event, we reunited with a visually impaired graduate who excitedly shared his experience working as a barista. We will continue to shoulder the social responsibility of supporting vulnerable communities.
Teachers from the Hong Kong Red Cross Princess Alexandra School, aiming to help students with physical disabilities and multiple impairments master coffee brewing skills, first led by example by taking the City and Guilds course at Tasse. This laid the groundwork for achieving sustainable coffee development goals on campus in the future. Later, by providing professional advice in the coffee field, we helped the school successfully apply for funding to host a series of coffee-making workshops, allowing students to enjoy diverse learning experiences.
⏪ February
We partnered with the Hong Kong Society for the Deaf to launch a City and Guilds evening course, successfully training hard-of-hearing individuals to work as baristas. This marked another major milestone following our training of visually impaired individuals!
In the same month, we also collaborated with Mr. Takuya Miura, champion of Japan’s SCAJ (Specialty Coffee Association of Japan), to launch an overseas coffee bean pre-order campaign.
Additionally, as a representative of the coffee industry, we successfully promoted Hong Kong-style milk tea culture to enterprises and communities for the first time! Hong Kong’s traditional food culture is inseparable from coffee and milk tea, and through various opportunities, we hope to help preserve these important cultural elements.
⏪ March
Our unremitting efforts in promoting coffee culture have earned the trust of major enterprises. Following last year’s collaborations with Apple and Cathay Pacific, we were honored to be invited by Microsoft to host a team-building event, allowing employees to relieve work pressure through coffee.
Graduates of the Employees Retraining Board (ERB)’s IVDC program surprised us with a visit to Tasse to see their instructors, reminiscing about course moments and updating us on their employment status.
⏪ April
After the pandemic, we had the opportunity to visit Songyue Coffee Plantation in Taichung and explore various unique local coffee shops. Not only did we get up close to numerous coffee tree species and gain insights into Taiwan’s specialty coffee development, but we also built a friendly relationship with the Guo couple, sowing the seeds for coffee exchange collaborations in Taiwan next year.
Meanwhile, we successfully launched Tasse’s fifth international certification course – the Italian Barista Certificate course – becoming Hong Kong’s only authorized examination venue. This also makes us the sixth examination institute in East Asia, following South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Wenzhou, and Guangzhou.
Whether through community partnerships, international exchanges, or collaborations with leading enterprises across industries, these four months were filled with opportunities for collaboration and growth. We will continue to strive, using coffee as a medium to create value for society and drive a better future.
Stay tuned for our next recap to continue witnessing our growth journey! ✨
