Our story

Telling coffee stories, one cup at a time.

“Tasse” is French for cup. Everything we do — the Hong Kong coffee school, the events team, the Tokyo roastery — starts from one belief: a carefully made cup can carry culture, craft and opportunity to anyone.

Passing on culture through education; creating opportunity through craft.

Social enterprise

A certified social enterprise, first and foremost.

Tasse Coffee is a Hong Kong government-recognised social enterprise. From day one we have led with coffee education — skills training for young people, seniors, the unemployed and people with disabilities. Part of our drip-bag packing is handed to community partners so people who need a fresh start have an income to begin from. Our volunteer team still goes out to welfare organisations every month. It is slow, unglamorous work, and it is exactly why this company exists.

  • Instructor partner of the Employees Retraining Board (ERB)
  • Coffee volunteer team serving care homes and grassroots communities
  • Dedicated courses for seniors, SEN students, the visually impaired and ethnic minorities

Milestones

Where we have been, where we are going.

2020

Tasse Coffee Lab founded

Established in Hong Kong as a professional specialty-coffee training base, with a social mission built in from the start.

2023

Tokyo, and a world ranking

Opened our overseas roastery flagship in Takadanobaba, Shinjuku. The same year we placed 2nd worldwide and 1st in Asia in LAGS certification — and have held a ranking for three years running.

2027

The “Starting Point” flagship

In partnership with the Hong Kong Housing Society, a community flagship combining professional education with intergenerational inclusion.

The people behind it

Candice Ng

Co-founder · Hong Kong

Candice fell for coffee working in cafés on the Gold Coast and in Melbourne. Back in Hong Kong she qualified as an SCA barista trainer, and since 2021 has taught on Employees Retraining Board programmes, walking alongside students looking for a way back into work. She opened Tasse Coffee in October 2020, at the hardest point of the pandemic — starting with private classes of just two students.

Wing Yuen

Co-founder · Tokyo

Wing came from design strategy — a master’s from PolyU and years in digital UX, including a chat platform he built and sold to an Indian technology company — before moving into specialty coffee in 2015. He now runs Tasse Coffee Roastery in Tokyo, selecting, roasting and scoring every lot himself. He is an SCA Authorized Trainer, CQI Q Instructor, City & Guilds examiner, competition sensory judge, and author of The Roasting Bible series.

Tokyo

From Hong Kong to Takadanobaba.

In 2023 we opened Tasse Coffee Roastery in Tokyo — not just a café but a working roastery, where the beans for both cities are roasted. It is our bridge between the Hong Kong and Japanese coffee communities.
